Sure you’ve always dreamed of hopping a sports bike, and riding off into the sunset like Tom Cruise on "Top Gun". Chances are your parents never let you growing up, so now that you’re on your own why not go out and get that bike you’ve always wanted! Of course a lot of people will argue that cars are better than motorcycles.

They might argue that cars are more practical, more comfortable, or even safer. Some will say that cars are easier to be seen by other motorists and offer better protection in the case of an accident. While they do make a few good points, there are several important reasons why two wheels are better than four:

• Fuel Economy- Even the bikes with large displacement used under strenuous driving conditions get over 30mpg. While the most economic cycles can easily achieve over 100mpg. Most car companies are very proud of their vehicles 30 mpg, but this is completely eclipsed when compared to the fuel economy of a motorcycle.

• Quicker Commutes- Because of traffic laws in certain states, motorcyclists are allowed to do what is called "lane-splitting". When traffic is at a stand-still or moving very slowly, motorcyclists are allowed to pass other vehicles between the marked lanes. So while you’re stuck in traffic, motorcycle riders will be cruising on to their destination.

• Cars Make Motorcycles Unsafe- Everyone talks about how dangerous motorcycles are. While motorcycle accidents are more traumatic than passenger vehicles, they can’t be blamed entirely for the accident. In fact 75% of all motorcycle accidents involve other vehicles that violated the motorcyclist’s right of way. So there you have it; riders don’t make motorcycles dangerous, cars make motorcycles dangerous!

• Fun Factor- I know what you’re thinking… Fun is subjective. Well, even so, it’s hard to deny that a motorcycle ride in the right conditions is anything short of spectacular. While everyone’s reason for riding a motorcycle may be different there is certainly a wide respect for the excitement that it provides.

With the prices of gas skyrocketing over the last few months, it seems that the fuel economy offered by motorcycles alone would be enough to convince you to head to your local. Some turn to motorcycles simple because they always wanted one and their parents never let them have one. No matter what your motives for getting a motorcycle if you don’t fully understand now that two wheels are better than four, you will soon.
